Mellonlahti nature trail

Located just below Imatrankoski, Mellonlahti is an oasis near the city center. The nature trail begins in the park of Valtionhotelli near the Imatrankoski bridge, following the ancient bed of the Vuoksi River. This approximately three-kilometer route allows you to admire lush grove vegetation, verdant nature, and some of the finest views of the Vuoksi River. The trail also ascends Mellonmäki, offering magnificent vistas over Imatrankoski extending all the way to Svetogorsk.

The Vuoksi Nature Trail showcases the river’s rich wildlife, culture, and history. This fascinating route spans a total of 8.4 kilometers and passes through several culturally and historically significant sites and museums, making it a trail full of things to discover and explore.

Kruunupuisto trails

The area surrounding Imatrankoski, known as Kruunupuisto, was declared a protected park by Tsar Nicholas I as early as 1842. These historic nature trails run along both sides of the rapids' stream, guiding you through the dramatic geological formations, local flora and fauna, and offering insights into the hydropower plant that has shaped the landscape.

Malonsaari forest trail

This natural forest path circles the shores of Malonsaari Island, offering scenic views over the deep blue Lake Saimaa. The entire island is dedicated to outdoor recreation and hiking. There’s a campfire site available, just remember to bring your own firewood.

Lammassaari nature trail

Lammassaari is a naturally beautiful island formed after the ice age, known for its diverse terrain and rich natural environment. The trail winds through the island’s interior, allowing you to explore its rolling ridges, varied landscapes, and vibrant flora and fauna up close.

Lammassaari shore trail

The Lammassaari Shore Trail is an easy-to-walk route that circles the island without significant elevation changes. The full trail is approximately 3 kilometers long. It begins at the end of the causeway leading to Lammassaari, where signposts guide you clockwise around the island, ending at the marina, though it can also be walked counterclockwise. Along the way, you'll find a traditional hut (kota) and a lean-to shelter for resting or enjoying a break in nature.
